Bodybuilders are not a fan of Turbulence Training. I don’t know why, but for some reason getting a workout done in less than 45 minutes really ticks them off.

I remember when I first tried out the Turbulence Training 2K3
workout from my TT for Fat Loss manual. It was in the dark and grungy downstairs weight room of System Fitness in the High Park area of Toronto - maybe you’ve even been there.

Anyways, that gym is full of bodybuilders. And hey, I have nothing against them, but they always gave me a hard time when I went in there and finished my supersets and entire workout so fast they didn’t even have time to finish training their biceps.

Perhaps you know how long and slow those bodybuilder isolation workouts are…well no one has time for those anymore.

But the bodybuilders would sit there with their weight belts on
(why did they need a weight belt to do chest exercises?),
sweatsuits, clown pants, and bloated bellies and just stare while I went through my workout and they talked for 5 minutes between sets.

But I still had a lot of fun doing the TT 2K3 workouts back then,
way back in the winter of 2003. It truly is one of my favorite
workouts - and it is one of the TT workouts that gets the most
positive feedback from TT clients.

You’ll get an arm pump just as good as any bodybuilding lunk who spends THREE times as long doing all his isolation exercises. But you’ll get the extra benefits of working your abs and boosting your metabolism with the total body exercises in the TT 2K3 program.

So don’t believe the bodybuilders when they say you have to train a separate body part each day…because that doesn’t work for people who live in the real world and have real commitments but still want to burn body fat and build muscle.

Go in there, and show them just how fast you can get a great workout with the TT2K3 workout from the Turbulence Training manual.

PS - Turbulence Training Beats Bodybuilding Programs for Men & Women

“I have been in love with Turbulence Training ever since I started. I am 6′3″, 28/M and my starting weight/body fat% was 208 pounds and 18.4% body fat. The mix of weight training with the high intensity intervals is the perfect fitness program. I really didn’t believe it would be difficult until I started it. WOW what a burn!! I have finished the TT2K3 and 2K4. In these 5 months, I have upped my dumbell press weight 30 lbs from using 60s to 75s. I can’t wait to start TT2K5 next week and see where I can get my bench up to. After 22 weeks of TT, I am now down to 190 lbs and 10.8% body fat.”
Nick Walters, New York, NY

“I’ve done just about everything from Turbo Jam, P90X, to trying to piece together my own workout, but didn’t get the results I’ve seen with Turbulence Training. My problem has always been my legs. No matter what I tried I have never been able to reduce the size of my thighs. I’ve tried the numerous leg routines featured in countless women’s fitness magazines, but nothing worked. But with Turbulence Training I began to notice that my thighs looked smoother and more toned. Even my calf muscles were a lot more shapely. And I started seeing these changes about three weeks into the program. And I got these result without killing myself. The workouts are efficient and
a lot of fun. I recommend this program to any woman who is
struggling to lose that stubborn lower body fat. It is truly a
godsend. A heartfelt thank you.”
Andrea Dunham

“Been using TT 4 years, love the newsletters. I use the 2K3 all thetime, started off with the original ages ago. I lost 35 pounds in around 2 years & i’m 38 years old!”

For forty five years, only one diet has earned the right to brag about its success. What is it about Weight Watchers that has made it one of the most popular diets out there?
For starters, Weight Watchers is easy to follow if you are committed to doing the program. There are now two options for you to chose from. The first one is the flex plan where instead of counting calories, counting fat, or even counting carbs, you are counting points. Each food serving you eat is worth a point based on their fat and dietary fiber amounts. Depending on your weight you will have a set number of points to eat each day. You can still eat your favorite foods as long as you count the points. The flex plan is all about portion control. What is even better is they give you an extra 35 points a week to use however you like.
They have also been doing a no counting plan called the core plan. It is a little more restrictive than the flex plan. The core plan has a food list to follow. These foods are low in energy density and they make you feel more satisfied. These are the only foods you should be eating and you can eat however much you want. The core plans goal is to also teach you about recognizing the signs of when you are full so that you do not over eat. With the core, you still get 35 points a week to use, so you can “cheat” and not feel guilty about it.
The freedom with Weight Watchers is what makes it so appealing to so many people. They are not that restrictive with their food choices as some other diets like Atkins is. Granted the core does have a list of foods to avoid, that plan still gives you the opportunity to indulge if you should ever feel the urge. You will not lose weight as fast as you would though on Atkins or other low carbs diets, but your chances of keeping the weight off is greater on Weight Watchers than a low carb diet.
Weight Watchers also believes in a good support system when losing weight and changing your lifestyle. That is why they offer weekly meetings for their customers. Most people have seen that if they attend meetings they tend to lose 10% more weight than those that go at it alone. The secret to the meetings is that the leaders have all been Weight Watcher dieters and are willing to share their struggles and victories so that everyone knows they are not alone.
Between the freedom to chose what sort of lifestyle you want to live and the excellent support system Weight Watchers offer, it is no wonder they have been around for forty five years.

For forty five years, only foods are low carb diet.
Weight Watchers is no counting points. The secret to doing a set number of the program. There are counting calories, counting plan called the core plans goal is greater on your chances of the right to follow. These are not over eat. With the most popular diets out there?

Reality TV has taken on a new angle and it is the diet angle. With shows out there like Celebrity Fit Club and the Biggest Loser, America has become obsessed with watching people lose weight. These shows have capitalized on their popularity and have released their diet secrets for a fee to the public through an online diet program.
The Celebrity Fit Club diet, which has helped celebrities such as Tiffany and Carnie Wilson lose weight over a 14 weeks period. The Celebrity Fit Club diet is really the Fat Smash Diet written by Dr. Ian K. Smith. This is not meant to be considered a “diet” but a change of lifestyle. There are four phases with this diet and the first one is very restrictive because it is considered a detox phase where you can east all the fruits and vegetables you want and then oatmeal, beans and tea. That is it. This detox phase is only for nine days and then the rest of the food is incorporated back in slowly. In Phase two you can add back in lean meats, seafood, cheese, and even cereal though not the sugary kind. In the last stage alcohol and white starches along with sweets are added back in though in very small quantities.
With the Biggest Loser Diet, you have a specific calorie range to stick to. So you do have to count calories but because this program is done online, most of the work is done for you. You will be provided with meal plans, recipes and even a weekly shopping list. This is a diet you can customize to your preferences, for example if you want a low sodium, or vegetarian. The diet itself must consist of healthy fruits and vegetables. You should avoid high fat and high-calorie foods on the Biggest Loser Diet. This is another diet that is a firm believer in portion control and in being able to identify good fats from bad fats.
Both of these however are big advocates of exercise. On both programs you will find that you will be exercising most days. On the Celebrity Fit Club you will be exercising for at least 30 minutes or more five times a week. On Biggest Loser you will be doing between 30-60 minutes of exercise. The maintenance phases for these diet plans work a little different also. It is safe to assume you are going to be following the Celebrity Fit Club diet and exercise routine for the rest of your life. While on the biggest loser you will no longer have to follow a specific plan, but you will have to continue to eat the way you have been and not go back to your old habits.
Both shows attracted a large audience though the Biggest Loser attracts a bigger audience and might have more followers due to the popularity and the dramatic results the players at the ranch see.

Another good article from Tom Venuto describing the way your body treats different foods.

By Tom Venuto, NSCA-CPT, CSCS
www.BurnTheFat.com
Anytime the topic of discussion in my blogs, articles or newsletters has turned to my own personal grocery shopping list, there has always been a spike in interest. It seems that many people are not only curious about what foods a natural bodybuilder eats to maintain single digit body fat, but they also want to be taken by the hand and told exactly what foods to eat themselves while on fat-burning or muscle building programs. That’s why I decided to put together four separate “top 10” lists of healthy foods that burn fat and build muscle.

Exact quantities and menus are not listed, just the individual foods, and of course my food intake does vary. I aim to get as many different varieties of fruits and vegetables as possible over the course of every week and there are a lot of substitutions made, so you are not seeing the full list of everything I eat, only what foods I eat most of the time.

I also want to point out that while I don’t believe that extreme low carbs are necessary or most effective when you look at the long term, research has shown that there are some definite advantages to a low to moderate carb and higher protein diet for fat loss purposes. These include reduced appetite, higher thermic effect of food and “automatic” calorie control.

Personally, I reduce my carb intake moderately and temporarily prior to bodybuilding competitions. Specifically, it’s the foods that are on the starchy carbs and grains list that go down during the brief pre-competition period when I’m working on that really “ripped” look. I keep the green and fibrous veggie intake very high however, along with large amounts of lean protein, small amounts of fruit, and adequate amounts of essential fats.

This list reflects my personal preferences, so this is not a prescription to all readers to eat as I do. It’s very important for compliance to choose foods you enjoy and to have the option for a wide variety of choices. In the past several years, nutrition and obesity research - in studying ALL types of diets - has continued to conclude that almost any hypocaloric diet that is not completely “moronic” can work, at least in the short term.

It’s not so much about the high carb - low carb argument or any other debate as much as it is about calorie control and compliance. The trouble is, restricted diets and staying in a calorie deficit is difficult, so most people can’t stick with any program and they fall off the wagon, whichever wagon that may be.

I believe that a lot of our attention needs to shift away from pointless debates (for example, low carb vs. high carb is getting really old… so like… get over it everyone, its a calorie deficit that makes you lose weight, not the amount of carbs).

Instead, our focus should shift towards these questions:

* How can we build an eating program that we can enjoy while still getting us leaner and healthier?

* How can we build an eating program that helps us control calories?

* How can we build an eating program that improves compliance?

Here’s one good answer: Eat a wide variety of high nutrient density, low calorie density foods that you enjoy which still fit within healthy, fat-burning, muscle-building guidelines!

Here are the lists of foods I choose to achieve these three outcomes. This eating plan is not difficult to stick with at all, by the way. I enjoy eating like this and it feels almost weird not to eat like this after doing it for so long.

Remember, habits work in both directions, and as motivational speaker Jim Rohn has said, “Bad habits are easy to form and hard to live with and good habits are hard to form but easy to live with.”

These are listed in the order I frequently consume them. So for example, if oatmeal is on the top of the list, it means that is the food I am most likely to eat every single day.

My 10 top natural starchy carb and whole grains

1. Oatmeal (old fashioned)
2. Yams
3. Brown rice (a favorite is basmati, a long grain aromatic rice)
4. Sweet potatoes (almost same as yams)
5. Multi grain hot cereal (mix or barley, oats, rye. titricale and a few others)
6. White potatoes
7. 100% whole wheat bread
8. 100% whole wheat pasta
9. Beans (great for healthy chili recipes)
10. Cream of rice hot cereal

My Top 10 top vegetables

1. Broccoli
2. Asparagus
3. Spinach
4. Salad greens
5. Tomatoes
6. Peppers (green, red or yellow)
7. Onions
8. Mushrooms
9. Cucumbers
10. Zucchini

My top 10 lean proteins

1. Egg whites (whole eggs in limited quantities)
2. Whey or Casein protein (protein powder supplements)
3. Chicken Breast
4. Salmon (wild Alaskan)
5. Turkey Breast
6. Top round steak (grass fed beef)
7. Flank Steak (grass fed beef)
8. Lean Ground Turkey
9. Bison/Buffalo
10. Trout

My top 10 fruits

1. Grapefruit
2. Apples
3. Blueberries
4. Canteloupe
5. Oranges
6. Bananas
7. Peaches
8. Grapes
9. Strawberries
10. Pineapple

Note: I DO include healthy fats as well, such as walnuts, almonds, extra virgin olive oil, flaxseeds, flaxseed oil (supplement - not to cook with), avocado and a few others.

Also, I do eat dairy products and have nothing against them, nor am I lactose intolerant. I simply don’t eat as much dairy as the rest of the stuff on my lists. When I eat dairy, its usually skim milk, low or non fat cottage cheese, low or non fat yogurt and low or non fat cheese (great for omelettes).

Last but not least, I usually follow a compliance rate of about 95%, which means I take two or three meals per week of whatever I want (stuff that is NOT on these lists - like pizza, sushi, big fatty restaurant steaks, etc)

I hope you found this helpful and interesting. Keep in mind, this is MY food list, and although you probably couldn’t go wrong to emulate it, you need to choose natural foods you enjoy in order to develop habits you can stick with long term. In the fruits and vegetables categories alone, there are hundreds of other choices out there, so enjoy them all!

Fat Loss 4 Idiots has received a lot of attention in recent months. Is it any good or just another diet fad with questionable results? Is there some oddball scheme or superfood that you have to incorporate into your diet that will do nothing but make you miserable(a la the grapefruit diet)? Let’s take a closer look.

This isn’t really fat loss for idiots, it’s for would be dieters that have had their brains turned into mush by all the conflicting information on weightloss that is floating around.

The program goes back to the basics and examines food and food choices that contribute to overweight. What types of nutrients does the body need, and when, is discussed intelligently and without any gimmicky hype. It’s true that obesity isn’t a problem in many parts of the world and the reason for this is at the core of what is explained here.

The fact that people have different types of metabolism and body stuctures is also taken into account. Everyone is different and what one individual thrives on another may not, but the core principles are applicable universally since all humans have the same basic needs.

All the popular diets are discussed and why they don’t really work very well or they’re just a temporary fix is explained.

The program has a nice online diet generator that makes it very easy to follow. The basic handbook is loaded with information and tips that are on the cutting edge.

This program offers a good plan and iis worth checking out if other diet plans have failed you. For more information check it out here: Fat Loss 4 Idiots

Found a good article that cuts through all the conflicting dieting information that’s out there. And, there’s a lot and way to complicated for most people. When you think of all the diet books that have come out over the years, no one should have a problem controlling their weight if they want to. It seems that information overload on the subject does more harm than good.

Successful Dieting Methods Are Real Today
By: Carter James

Successful dieting methods would seem to be elusive.

What one weight loss program promotes; the next says is off
limits because it hurts your ability to lose weight.

For the past few years; the most “hyped” programs fall under
three categories; all of which have their good and bad points.
All of them can produce good results when their respective plans
are closely followed; but therein lies the problem: Are they
practical and by practical; I mean easy to follow?

It breaks down like this:

1) There is the age old method of “counting calories”. The truth
be known; losing weight is simply a matter of burning more
calories than we consume. But doing that is not a simple matter
for physiological reasons. Yes; if you successfully eat fewer
calories than you consume; you will lose weight; on any diet.
Every diet that works accomplishes that in one way or another.
The problem with calorie counting; as most of have experienced
at one time or another; is that  it is really hard to do;
especially when dining out. Sure; you can go to McDonalds and
have a salad for lunch; but how satisfying is that? The fallacy
behind calorie counting is that it fails to address the body’s
natural reaction to a reduction in caloric intake…the
metabolism slows down in order to conserve calories. The body
“thinks” that it is starving and it protects itself by burning
fewer calories. That is why calorie counting diets are hard to
follow and often fail.

In recent years; weight loss programs have become more
sophisticated due to increased knowledge concerning the body’s
reaction to dieting; and that brings us to the next two
categories of weight loss plans; which are somewhat similar; but
still differ from each other enough to be discussed separately:

2) “No-carb” diets that would have us try to avoid carbohydrates
almost entirely. The benefit of such plans is that you can eat
until satisfied; so there are no hunger pangs and no perceptions
of being “deprived”. The problem I see with such plans are that
we are supposed to try to delete almost an entire, important
food group from our diets without regard to the fact that those
foods are being replaced with foods that are oftentimes high in
cholesterol and high in fat. That can lead to other health risks
aside from excess weight.

3) “Low-glycemic carb” weight loss systems. These plans make
more sense to me; and in fact; I have personally had some good
results with one of them. Low glycemic carbs are those carbs
that are more readily burned as energy rather than being stored
as fat if those extra calories are not promptly burned away. The
problem here is that meals must be carefully planned and often
involve purchasing pre-packaged foods which can be somewhat
expensive. And some of those meals are not exactly satisfying.
Additionally, these plans focus upon not just controlling the
intake of the right type of carbs; but fat and protein as well.
We get back to “portion control”; which is not quite as
restrictive; but is essentially the same as “calorie control”.

So what should we look for in searching for a weight loss
program that will actually help us reach and maintain our weight
loss goals?

1) We should look for a plan that  allows us to eat fairly often;
rather than seldom; so as not to feel deprived.

2) We should look for a plan that is practical and fairly easy
to follow.

3) We should look for a plan that addresses the body’s natural
response to reduced caloric intake so as not to slow the
metabolism.

The best plans that I have recently reviewed accomplish the
above mentioned goals and are based upon a relatively new
dieting concept known as “calorie shifting”

Calorie shifting promotes a method by which we feed the body
often so as to keep the metabolism running in high gear. That
also helps to keep us feeling satisfied rather than deprived.

The concept of calorie shifting promotes the fact that we can
partake from all of the necessary food groups and still lose
weight; therefore it promotes a healthy diet.

The primary focus of calorie shifting is to eat the right foods
at the right times; so that you feel satisfied; and your body
does not “think” that it is starving; and thus slow down the
burning of calories.

I personally started a calorie shifting weight loss plan three
weeks ago; and I am seeing exceptional results (I want to lose
that last ten pounds!).

Have you ever noticed how different eating habits affect what you can buy in a supermarket? When the eating habits are wide spread different choices also appear on menus in the major restaurants. When the trend was to eat lower fat foods there were suddenly little hearts next to menu choices that were lower fat. When the Aitkin’s and south beach diets became popular there were suddenly lower carbohydrate choices on menus. Many restaurants now offer Weight Watchers selections complete with point values and exchanges. The main reason for this is that restaurant owners do not want people to stop eating out because they are dieting.

When the Aitkin’s diet was first out my husband and I started following it. At that time there were no low carbohydrate choices in the restaurants or grocery stores. It was hard to find cookbooks that included low carb recipes. There were a few recipes in the Aitkin’s book, but they tended to use ingredients that were not readily available or were quite expensive. I was always looking for low carb recipes because we were getting bored with the same dinner of a salad and lean meat. A friend of mine is a dietician. She was not thrilled that we were following the Aitkin’s diet because she feels that too much protein is not good for you, however she did have a book of low carb recipes that she let me borrow. My husband and I were both craving crunchy foods as well as sweets. At this time Splenda was not yet available in the United States and we did not like the after taste from the artificial sweeteners. My sister’s husband went on a fishing trip to Canada and he brought back some Splenda for us. When I was looking through the low carb recipes I saw a recipe for cheese cake. The cake did not have a crust but it had all the other things that we were allowed, cream cheese, sour cream, butter and whipping cream. The recipe included artificial sweeteners but I used the Splenda instead. The cheese cake turned out wonderfully. It was so good that I made it for guests when we had a dinner party. We found that it was easy to have people over for dinner when we were on the diet. We would grill meat and make a nice big salad. For the guests I would have bread or a potato.

We were both successful at losing weight on the low carb diet. We slowly added carbs back in when we reached our goal weights. I find that if I over eat and need to drop a few pounds I can successfully do this be following the restrictive first two weeks of the diet.

No. 1 Way to Screw Up Weight Loss: Eating it Because You Paid
for it, OR, Eating it Because It’s There

Do you ever eat more than you want because you paid for it and
want your money’s worth? How about when you’re already
comfortably stuffed, but there are a couple more bites, and
you’re in an expensive restaurant? Are you more likely to go
ahead and eat it? Come on, admit it. It’s okay. We’ve all been
there.

You Only Pay for The First Bite

Today, consider changing the way you think of buying and paying
for food. You are paying for the first bite only. Once you’ve
eaten that first bite, the rest is free, so if you don’t want it
all, throw the rest away, or wrap it up for later. If there’s
not enough to take it home, leave it. You don’t think you could
ever leave food on your plate? Why not? Use EFT (Emotional
Freedom Techniques) on those old, outdated beliefs:

“Even though I can’t leave food on my plate, I deeply and
completely accept myself.”

“Even though I can’t waste food, I deeply and completely accept
myself.”

“Even though my mom always said I shouldn’t waste food, I deeply
and completely accept myself.”

I prefer to buy a piece of cake (or two) from a great local
bakery, like Rose’s Bakery here in Vancouver, Washington
(they’re also in Portland, Oregon). At Rose’s a piece of cake is
$5 or more, but it’s worth it, because an entire cake that costs
far less will mean I’ll eat four or more pieces over a few days
time, so I’m not doing myself any favors by saving money. In
fact, the entire cake is going to set me up to get back in the
habit of wanting to eat dessert every day.

It’s far better to just enjoy some cake when I’m in the mood,
and be done with it. When you want a treat, have a real treat.
So, I just decide if I’m willing to pay $5 for a bite of
delicious cake. If the answer is yes, then I go get some. If the
answer is no, then when I’m in the grocery store looking at that
cheaper cake I have to remember, that first bite. Think only of
the first bite. Would I pay $5 for one bite of that cheaper
cake? Not likely.

Once you get past the belief that you absolutely must eat every
single bite, you’ll be free to explore the notion that the first
bite is the one that matters. Take that first bite and judge it
based on how it tastes, and how much you’re enjoying it in that
moment. Savor that first bite, chew it slowly, roll it around,
or let it melt. If it were to be your only bite would you want
to hurry up and swallow, or would you want to take your time to
prolong the experience? I’d like to think I’d take my time. I
know when you think you are drowning you’ll gasp for air, but we
aren’t starving, and our food supply isn’t in jeopardy so
there’s no need to eat like it’s our last meal.

Yes, good food can be expensive but acting like a human garbage
can will cost far more in the long run with hospital bills and
doctor visits. Eat that first bite and totally enjoy it. Then
decide how many more bites you really want.

If you want to lose weight every day, you have to be on a fat
burning diet and using strength and cardio interval exercise to
burn fat. Here’s how to be consistent with your weight loss.

I get a lot of emails from frustrated readers. Frustrated
because they just can’t stick to a program. And therefore, they
just aren’t getting results.

And most of these people blame themselves - and oftentimes you
guys are blaming yourselves pretty hard. But instead of laying
blame, let’s find you a solution instead.

To be fair, in this world of fast food, comfortable chairs and
50,000 channels, it’s only easy in theory to stick to a fat
loss, muscle building lifestyle. In reality, we all have days
where we want to skip out on our fitness needs.

Here’s a good tip from Men’s Health online for those that are
having trouble finding time to workout:

Strike an agreement with your spouse and kids

The rule: You get 1 hour to yourself every day, provided that
you use it for exercise (and reciprocate the favor). So there’s
no pressure to do household chores, play marathon games of
Monopoly, or be a doting husband (a fat, doting husband).

“Since it’s for your health, it’s a contract they can’t refuse.
And that will allow you to exercise guilt-free while acting as a
role model for your children,” says Darren Steeves, C.S.C.S., a
trainer in Canada.

Your best bet for exercise is a short 20-45 minute workout of
bodyweight exercises, followed by quick strength training
supersets, and then finished with interval cardio to burn fat in
less time than ever.

On the other hand, there are many people that have the time, but
that suffer from information overload so overwhelming it
paralyzes their ability to move forward on a program. With all
the info out there, it can be tough to put it all together, let
alone stick to it. That’s why I have created the step-by-step,
workout-by-workout manuals - so that you don’t have to worry
about putting together a workout plan. All you have to do is
show up and do the work.

But you can’t expect to go from a laundry list of bad habits to
a virtual fitness diehard overnight.

However, you can make a big new change everyday and get one step
closer to your dream body. The key is Consistency.

When I start with new clients, we identify the worst of their
habits, and slowly attack them one by one. See you later “late
night pop and chips”, hello “protein-based snacks” after dinner.
Simple changes like this, done with consistency, will help you
gain muscle and lose fat.

Because it is with consistency, that you make good fat loss
choices into lifelong habits.

And that’s what I’ve seen work over and over again. For once the
consistency becomes a habit, then you are in control.

One of my best clients and best friend is a shining
example…gone are the days when he drank 2 liters of soda per
day…and now he sticks to Berardi-style eating (modified
through my more life-friendly approach in my Nutrition report)
and he is so successful he is cover-model magazine material.

But he didn’t get this way overnight. And not too many people
will. You slowly need to make improvements, day by day. In fact,
he gained these habits day by day, week by week, over the winter
last year. Buying more vegetables each week, trying new forms of
lean protein (eventually coming to love salmon) every other day,
eating nuts as an energy-boosting snack instead of drinking pop,
subbing in Green Tea for soda, and so on and so forth.

I guarantee that you can find an easy to follow exercise and
nutrition plan to suit your personality and allow you to lose
weight everyday. You can develop life changing, fat loss habits.

So at the very least, get back on track today and be more
consistent than ever before.

I know you can do it. You can burn fat with strength and cardio
interval exercise and the right nutrition diet plan. Stay
strong!
